Care and maintenance of Guinea pigs

Guinea pig – wonderful and easy to care for and content pet. In the love and care it will live 5 to 15 years. Although there are deadly dangers that await your lovely animal to life.
The most harmful for Guinea pigs : 1. Overheating – the animal may die within a few minutes. For keeping Guinea pigs need to have the inventory : 1. House: ideal cage for rodents or for ptirpose small alterations. You can also use an aquarium without a lid. If you have a cat, an aquarium can be cover by two-thirds. 2. Drinker. Special drinking bowl is sold in pet stores. It should be quite inexpensive. Attached to the wall of the aquarium or cage. 3. Shovel, plastic toy, for cleaning.
Consumables – bedding: sawdust or hay or cat litter. The artist should be large, otherwise the powder can get into the trunk or even to close the airway. The sawdust and hay are changed 1 time per 1-2 days (landmark – smell: if you smell – cleaning up late). The best option is a filler cat litter made of pressed wood waste. Useful and favorite treats – grass dandelions. 2. Grain. It is about 30% of the diet. The best option is to buy balanced feed for Guinea pigs. Also suitable for manual composition of decorative rats or rabbits. 3. Fresh vegetables. Up to 20 % of the diet. It is good to give cucumbers (not early, greenhouse, otherwise a Guinea pig can be poisoned by chemicals), carrots, Apple. Sometimes a little dried cabbage leaves. 4. Little by little you can give crackers.
Drink fresh water (change it daily). The water is very useful to add a few drops of lemon juice (per volume drinkers). Little piggies in the water also need to add calcium gluconate, especially in winter. To do this, take 1/2 tablet of the drug to the drinker 50-70 ml, grind it and pour into water. Lemon juice helps the calcium to dissolve quickly.
Guinea pigs cannot be given: any food from our table: boiled, fried, salty, sweet, canned. Grass with dew. Fresh bread. Buryachok. Potatoes. Bean. Berries. Nuts.
The first signs of disease Guinea pigs : 1. A poor appetite. 2. Mumps is not “talking”. 3. Diarrhea in the animal. 4. A runny nose or a cough. 5. Lethargy, the desire to hide in the corner of the house. 6. Matted wool. 7. Inflammation of the eye (conjunctivitis). 8. “Numb” feet.
A healthy Guinea pig can sometimes sneeze if crumbs litter fall in the spout. When you see that baby does not come out, try to throw the nose with saline drops “Salin”, or just boiled water.
